Our community supports Naima:

“Councilor Sait has been an extraordinary and effective partner on the Council, and I am thrilled to endorse her for re-election. In her first term, I got to see her in action making a huge breakthrough on a years-long, seemingly intractable problem: the Armory Master Plan. I saw first-hand how Councilor Sait brought everyone together, worked tirelessly over all the difficult issues, to help get this over the finish line. I've watched her work with residents on issues big and small, and the residents of Ward 5 benefit greatly from her hard work, her values, and her willingness to get stuff done.”

Ben Ewen-Campen,
Somerville City Councilor, Ward 3

“I've been impressed with Naima's engagement in and care for our Somerville community, her integrity, and her passion for justice and fairness since I first met her -- long before she considered running for City Council. Naima is dedicated, hard-working and responsive to constituents. She is a thoughtful and independent voice on the Council. As an educator who taught at Somerville High for many years, and as an immigrant, she brings critical information and perspective to discussions on some of the most pressing issues that we face in Somerville today.”

Mark Niedergang,
Former Somerville City Councilor, Ward 5

“I am extremely impressed with City Councilor Naima Sait. She takes her role seriously, and puts in the hours. Councilor Sait had the ideal temperament for this job. She is calm, measured, diplomatic, and fair-minded. When mediating between constituents and other parties, she is persistent, but always courteous.

Councilor Sait is quick to reply to constituent requests, and takes action on their needs. In our neighborhood, for instance, she has been deeply involved in a fair and transparent approach to the future of the Armory. I am delighted that Councilor Sait is running for re-election.”

Naima's responsive leadership and steadfast advocacy for affordable housing, safe streets, fully funded schools and climate resilient municipal buildings is why I'm proud to endorse Naima for re-election.”

“I’m proud to endorse Naima Sait for re-election in Ward 5. I have known Naima for many years and deeply admire her honesty, integrity, and commitment to public service. Together, we introduced resolutions in support of immigrants’ rights, including the Safe Communities Act and the Legal Defense Act. Naima leads with compassion, listens with intention, and always puts the needs of her community first. Ward 5 is fortunate to have her strong, principled voice at the table, and I look forward to seeing her continue this important work.”

"Naima is a compassionate and thoughtful leader who puts the needs of our most vulnerable residents first. Her background as an immigrant and educator gives her a perspective that is much needed on the council. She uses her mind and morality to represent her neighbor's interests. I fully support her candidacy for reelection."

“I am proud to endorse Naima Sait for re-election representing Ward 5 on the Somerville City Council. Naima understands that housing affordability is the number one issue facing our community, and she supports a set of progressive policies to keep Somerville affordable, from rent stabilization and the transfer fee to zoning reforms and funding changes. In her first term, I have been grateful for her leadership, and I look forward to continuing to work with her to make progress for our community.”

Mike Connolly,

“As School Committee Vice Chair, I could not ask for a better partner on the City Council than Naima Sait! She has been a powerhouse on the School Building and Facilities Maintenance joint subcommittee advocating for a new classroom at the Argenziano, swing space if a building fails, and better communication from the city. She is a strong advocate for fully funded schools and introduced a resolution that puts forward a step-by-step plan to decarbonize our municipal buildings.”

Sarah Phillips,
Somerville School Committee, Ward 3

"Councilor Sait has been an incredible addition to our City Council, and has brought both independent advocacy and her unique perspective to our deliberations. Ward Councilors - at their best - both defend their neighbors and push the city forward. The residents of Ward 5 have an outstanding representative in Clr Sait, and I hope we can all benefit from her service for another two years."

“Naima's lived experience and vision for leadership are crucial at a time where housing is the top challenge faced by Somerville residents, especially low-income renters and immigrants. Her commitments to increasing municipal tools for truly affordable housing and tenant protections are what we need to slow the displacement crisis.

“Naima has also taken action for language justice by leveraging her multilingual network, connecting volunteers with community-based organizations who need interpreters and translators. Her policy aim to increase access to language services across the city will ensure that every resident feels welcome and empowered in our city, regardless of their linguistic or cultural background."

Somerville Renter and Community Organizer

I whole-heartedly support Naima for Ward 5 City Council. I first met Naima as part of advocacy around making a renovated/new Winter Hill school building high performance, healthy and environmentally positive. Naima has been a climate champion at Somerville High and as part of the Somerville Educators Union. She has led the effort that resulted in Somerville being the first and only school district that now will require a climate curriculum in every grade! In my advocacy with Naima I have found her to be a wonderful listener and proactive leader. She is also passionate about other issues I care about including affordable housing, mental health and language justice. I believe that her perspective as an immigrant and parent  will be assets and positively impact the contributions she will make as a member of the City Council.”

Courtney Koslow,
Ward 5 resident, Winter Hill parent

I support Naima Sait for Ward 5 Somerville City Council. As an immigrant, educator, wife and mother, I share the same concerns as Naima about the future of our city and also wish Somerville to be a welcoming city to all. Naima is a committed, reliable, insightful and caring  individual who has done a lot for our schools and for the city. I believe she truly cares about all people, and I believe the same dedication she showed toward her students as an educator, she’ll show toward Somerville residents. She has my full support!”
